We played a ton of games in 2015. A whole bunch, really. Even with all of that gaming, though, we just missed some. It happens. We’re human. Plus we have jobs and responsibilities and all of those terrible adult-y things that interrupt gaming sessions. Here are the games that we were hoping to check out last year that we just didn’t get around to.
Raptor
The head-to-head two player action selection and movement sounds really fun. Being able to take on the role of the raptors or scientists seems to keep the game fresh as they each have different objectives.
I really know nothing about this game except that it’s a 2-player game that everyone seems to love. I play a lot of 2-player games and I’m always on the lookout for great ones, so I need to try this one out for myself. Oh, and it has Velociraptor minis… enough for me!
T.I.M.E. Stories
I have been hearing nothing but good things about time stories. I like like the puzzle co-op experience it offers. I prob will need to just pick this one up and try it out.
I’ve heard great things about this game and the style seems like something I would really enjoy. I love co-ops and this style of open, adventure-type game. The ‘solve the mystery’ aspect seems awesome, too. Now that I got this for Christmas, it’s become a must play and I can’t wait to get it to the table.
I like puzzles, and I like cooperating. Dan says that I’d enjoy this and he generally pins the tail on my donkey when predicting games I’d like to play.
Blood Rage
So many folks have been talking about this Viking-themed euro title and I want to give it a whirl. I have, literally, not heard a bad thing about it yet.
Mage Wars Academy
This is the lighter, two-player version of the popular dueling game, Mage Wars. It removes the spatial element of maneuvering around the board and makes it a much faster and more approachable game. Consider my interest piqued.
Tash-Kalar: Arena of Legends – Nethervoid
I love Tash-Kalar. And I love creepy demon-y things. I know it’s just an expansion and not a full game but I’m totally stoked about it. Matt just picked it up. We’ve gotta play it!
Among the Stars: Revival
It’s a two-player version of Among the Stars, which I really enjoyed. We actually own a copy (since Christmas) so we’ll have to get it to the table, pronto.
Crokinole
Yes, it’s not the latest “hotness,” but I’ve wanted to play Crokinole for some time now. Unfortunately, the cost of a board is fairly steep, so I’d like to eventually craft my own. Which may translate to me never playing it in my lifetime. Encompassing qualities of games I’m fond of like shuffleboard, curling and marbles, I dream of one day flicking my way around a Crokinole board.
Mombasa
Alexander Pfister is quickly climbing my favorite designers list with hits like Isle of Skye and Broom Service. Mombasa sadly got caught up in all the holiday madness and never made it to the table. The game features a unique, ‘rotating display’ hand-mechanism that compliments a host of familiar euro mechanics. This game has received high praise from those I trust and I can’t wait to play it.
Food Chain Magnate
Due to a friend over-sleeping at BGGCon, I was sadly not able to get in my scheduled learning game. Unforgiving, strategic, and entirely luck free… this game truly speaks to me. Still in shrink and begging to be played, I hope to open my fast food chain early in the new year.
